Narara Valley High School Band - Instrument Selection

There are a few important factors to take into consideration when you think about the purchase of an instrument:

1 . Quality is very important. To spend a little extra on this investment really pays off, a quality instrument will be set up properly, last a very long time when looked after and will be cheaper to repair. Instrument repairers find it very difficult to fix an obscure instrument with different parts,

2. eBay - Never purchase an instrument from eBay without first consulting with a musician first. Sometimes you will find great instruments but there are way too many instruments arriving on ships from foreign countries that either only last one month or don't even work at all, you will find yourself paying more for repairs than the instrument initially cost.

We recommend the following brands:

  • Yamaha

  • Artley

  • Buffet

  • Armstrong

  • Jupiter

  • Conn

  • King

  • Bach

  • Selmer

Some of these brands are considerably more expensive than others but please note that you do not have to get a really costly instrument to get quality. There are many other brands worth considering, so if you find a different brand instrument, please consult with a tutor to first get a professional opinion.

The following music shops on the Central Coast and Hunter have a range of beginner and some Intermediate instruments available. (Click on the following shops to follow the link to their website.
